Oktober Revolution

Last Thursday NUCA teamed up with the socialist oppressors of Labour Soc for joint bar crawl called the Oktober Revolution. The idea behind the bar crawl is for NUCA to chase the Labour Party across Nottingham in a set path of bars in order to catch them. If the Tories catch up with Labour, NUCA wins. However, if NUCA fails to catch up with Labour, they win. Thankfully there was a Con gain against Labour around 1030. NUCA victory!

The Conservatives were told to dress up, which is what usually happens for this event. However only two of us did; I came as Nigel Lawson and George, a fresher, came as Mrs T. 

Whilst at the first bar NUCA also elected its freshers reps for the year and they are Beth and Sam. I think they'll do pretty well and my advice to them is to hold freshers meet ups in bars occasionally so everyone gets to know each other pretty well.*

We went to many bars, I can't remember how many for obvious reasons, and in one of them some of the NUCA people got distracted by an old school Nintendo 64. I had a go to on Mario Kart and once I had worked out how to accelerate had a good few wins.

 The Oktober Revolution is a great event but just wait till we do the Fox Hunt later this year.

*Alex wants me to make it clear he and Badger organised some smashing meet ups last year and he has now copyrighted all freshers meet ups for the future.

#ThingsElliottSays is Back

#ThingsElliottSays has returned. So keep your eye for a long overdue weekly poll lowdown, an account of the East Midlands Conference (which seems to have become a little bit controversial since I was last online) and the Oktober Revolution bar crawl against Labour (which was a Con gain from last year). I also met Boris Johnson.

The first bit of news I have to share is that I have heard rumours from Labour Soc members that Nottingham City Council/ Nottingham Labour considered whether to sue me or not last week. Nottingham Labour has considered doing this because of my recent articles on the Nottingham Labour Cllr who said it was a 'shame' students are allowed to live in Lenton (see http://thingselliottsays.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/exclusive-nottingham-councillor-says.html and http://nottingham.tab.co.uk/2013/10/15/nottingham-councillor-it-is-a-shame-that-students-allowed-to-live-in-lenton/). This is not because they contest anything I have written in the article* but because I used the Nottingham City Council logo without me phoning them up to ask permission. They did decide however that this would give them a bad image because the logo is being used on many other websites without permission, they're a public body and are supposed to serve the people (at least in public in Nottingham Council's case) and also I am a student.

Of course these are all rumours. This may or may not be true but I want to be safe from the logo police of Nottingham City Council so will now use this logo.

So what of the future? I've got a lot coming up so posts will be going in order of priority for me and not chronology. But anyway its time to celebrate so get that champagne open, like they do in the Labour Party, and have a good time.

* This is legally speaking of course because obviously they're not happy with bad press.

Problems Again

We are having technical difficulties. Among the good people of Nottingham lives a bastard who has run off with my laptop after breaking into my house. So, as you might guess, I'm having internet access problems so no more blog posts for about a week.

When I do finally come back I have a lot to tell you because I have been on the Oktober Revolution and the East Midlands Conference. Coming up soon we also have a question time debate and another #PortAndPolicy. I hope you're ready for a big return.

Competition

It seems that I now have very local competition for the blogs-sphere from The NUCA Blog by Henry, the General Secretary of NUCA, who replaced Marshall Stalin last year. The NUCA Blog will talk about what happened at the main events as record for the future NUCA people, those who turned up, Soviet spys or anyone who happens to come across the page.

Tab-tastic

I have yet again written a news story for the Tab. East Midlands CF Conference

Are you busy on Saturday, apart from recovering from a hangover possibly? No, well come to the East Midlands CF Conference to listen and debate with fantastic speakers who are also proper Tories.

This is the 2nd time the East Midlands CF Conference has taken place and this year looks like it may be better than the last. As always the conference is hosted by Emma McClarkin MEP, who has taken some time out from fighting the good cause against a federal European superstate to speak to us. Also there will be Nicky Morgan MP, recently promoted to be Economic Secretary to the Treasury, and Sir Edward Garnier QC MP, not the hair shampoo man but a previous cabinet member and Solicitor General.

As well as these three big names there are several other MPs, MEP candidates and Colonel Cooper. But if that's not enough for those interested in debate there is a free meal, which last year was top notch. Of course there is also copious amounts of freebees, which range from the obvious pens to the not so obvious mints.

The question of the day? Will Colonel Cooper be bringing KFC?

Two Yobos Highlight Costal Erosion (With Brandon Lewis MP)

Brandon Lewis MP is campaigning to highlight the coastal erosion at Hemsby Beach. However if you look behind him two Yobos show Brandon why Hembsy beach is eroding very fast.

At least we know how to solve the erosion problem.
