Team Paterson Storm To Victory

#TeamPaterson stormed to victory in the CF national elections yesterday evening winning every single slot on the national executive and regional college (apart from London). Sadly #ThingsElliottSays couldn't cover the CF Elections because there has been mass computer problems for the past few weeks. Normal service has now returned.

Paterson has told #ThingsElliottSays "Firstly, I must give thanks to everyone. Thanks goes to Oliver Cooper. Thanks to everyone who backed me and my team. Thanks to #TeamPaterson and the CF'ers who give up their time to make this organisation work.

"A massive congratulations also goes to everyone who was elected to national and regional positions last night. I can't wait to work with you all to help make sure we can have an organisation we are all proud of. Now these elections are out of the way, it's time to focus on what really matters - 2015 and a Tory majority. I, and my team, will work together to make sure CF campaigns together and helps deliver a Tory majority together."

Stephen Canning, who was elected unopposed, has said also "I'm absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as Deputy Chairman Political for the coming year where I'm taking the place of an outstandingly hardworking CF'er, Robert Manning."

India Brumitt, named as the 'big gun of CF', has spoke to #ThingsElliottSays as well "I'm excited to take on the challenge of the Deputy Chairman Membership role and look forward to working with the new executive, the new regional chairman and all CF in the run up to 2015."

Annabel Shaw, who had a three way duel for her role as Best Practice Officer, told #ThingsElliottSays "A massive thank you to everyone who voted for me, I'm so exited to get down to work and make sure CF is fighting fit and ready to play its part in delivering a Conservative majority in 2015."

#ThingsElliottSays wishes all those elected well.

Stephen Canning Hands Over Eastern Region To Cllr Tom Hunt

Stephen Canning the Eastern Region Chair, but better known for his leading roles in Towie and Made in Chelsea, has today officially handed over the Eastern Region CF website, twitter, Facebook and newsletter to Tom Hunt.

Stephen is standing in the up and coming CF elections and wants to make sure that he gains no unfair advantage over anyone wants to stand against him as Deputy Chairman (Political). Stephen ran for this position last year but narrowly missed out, he is thus having another go this August.

Stephen has a lot of experience in politics. As well as running Eastern CF he is a well respected councillor in Braintree where he chairs the youth strategy board. Stephen is a management consultant and also a very keen marathon runner. He also announced today he will be running in the London Marathon for Tommy's, the baby charity. You can donate to his run here

Stephen has handed over the running of all the Eastern Region accounts to my good friend Tom Hunt, who ran as an MEP in the European Elections earlier this year. Tom has said to #ThingsElliottSays "I will be assuming temporary control of Eastern Region CF's social media accounts and newsletter until after the upcoming CF elections as Stephen will be standing in the election and would not like to gain an unfair advantage."

Good luck Stephen in the CF Elections.

Exclusive: 'Big Gun' India To Stand As Deputy CF Chair (Membership)?

Rumours are going around that India Brummitt is standing to be Deputy Chairman (Membership) in the almost inevitable up and coming CF elections. #ThingsElliottSays has heard others call India 'one of the unsung Big Guns' of campaigning. Furthermore, if she were to stand and win she would be the complete opposite of the incapable loud-mouthed nobodies who have previously held the Deputy Chairman (Membership) role.

India has previously been Deputy CF Chairman of South West London and is currently Wandsworth CF Chair. India also holds the important Deputy Chairman role for the Conservatives in Earsfield, a key ward successfully held by the Tories in the recent local elections. More recently however she has been one of the key leaders on the RoadTrip2015 committee and been personally responsible for the large part of 600 activists which went to help out in the Newark by-election.

#ThingsElliottSays contacted India to ask her about the rumours of her candidacy but she would not confirm or deny her candidacy as Deputy CF Chairman. India said "I've relished the opportunity to be involved in leading the RoadTrip2015 campaign days right across the country and loved meeting young Conservatives from all around and I'll keep doing this."

#ThingsElliottSays then followed this up by contacting Eastern Region CF Chairman, Stepehen Canning*. He has yet to hear this rumour but told #ThingsElliottSays "Were there to be an election and were India to run she'd be a fantastic asset to the organisation. Her card has been marked for a long time as a hardworking, dedicated CF'er and I'm sure she could bring a continental shift to the role."

India, Canning, Cooper, Kude and some doughnuts.

#ThingsElliottSays will keep you updated with this story.

Tom Hunt Campaigns Across The East

After the success of my last post, here is another photo round up about what my friend Tom Hunt has been doing in his campaigning efforts as 5th of the list to be a Conservative MEP in the East. Tom has really made huge efforts to get around the whole region from the North Norfolk coast to the London commuter towns. Let's see where he has been.

A few days ago Tom went to Bishops' Stortford where he came across Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe. Of course he went into canvass to see if the sweet shop owners are on side and I'm pleased to report they are. I love these sort of shops so let's hope Tom has saved me some liquorice torpedoes.

Tom also went Borehamwood with Geoffrey Van Orden MEP where they spotted in a car park one of the famous Conservative posters for the European Elections. Remember it's only the Conservatives that can deliver the country an in-out referendum on Europe. Be sure to vote for that on Thursday.

Having taken a break from appearing on Towie as 'man in background', Stephen Canning joined Tom Hunt as he campaigned in Braintree. There was a lot of support of the ground from the Braintree Tories and hopefully this will thus be a strong area in the elections. How very Reem.

Tom is not one to shy away from a debate and promote the fact that the Conservatives want either a heavily reformed EU or for us to leave. He thus took on other party representatives in a debate at King's College, Cambridge. Doesn't the UKIP man look grumpy.

Tom also went to his home town of Ely to campaign in the town centre with both Geoffrey Van Orden MEP and David Campbell Bannerman MEP. Tom is a councillor in Ely South Ward where he works very hard. He hopes that his constituents will come out and vote for him again in the EU elections.

Tom has also been near to where I live in Gorefield where he and all the other MEP candidates spoke to residents about the EU and answered questions. This was at the time of the Roman Bank by-election, won by cool Conservative Sam Clark. This event was enjoyed by all and afterwards the Euro-candidates gave Sam a hand and did a bit of campaigning for her.

Tom was back with David Campbell Bannerman with a street stall in Hitchin market place. I guess by this time Tom has handed out tens of thousands of the Euro leaflets. I hope that they convince enough people to back the Conservatives in up and coming elections to keep the pressure of the Eurocrats.

Tom then went to Rochford and Southend with James Dudridge MP. Other notable campaigners include Andrew Thorpe-Apps who has been doing a lot of good work in the south of the region. Also there's a guy in tweed I recognise from Nottingham. Not quite sure what he does in the Conservative Party, probably just a very keen activist. Maybe he'll get a role on the NUCA committee next year, who knows?

Back with Geoffrey Van Orden wearing out the leather on the streets of Thetford. Tom has been to all the edges and now the centre of the Eastern region.

Tom was joined by Mark Prisk MP to campaign in Ware, Hertfordshire. I wonder who 'Keith Ian' is.

And finally Tom visited Welwyn Garden City which was built by Ebenezer Howard in the 1920s. Tom enjoyed some chicken tikka and rice in a break before he ventured out on the campaign trail again.

As you can see Tom has been very busy. It would be a shame not to vote for someone who has worked so hard. I really want to see hard work rewarded so please vote Conservative this Thursday.

#YBFX

As you know, if you read my blog regularly or are an ultrasound Conservative, I have been to the YBF conference. Sound!

Unless you are accepting a knighthood from the Queen, you must make sure you are at Churchill College with Donal Blaney and YBF chums for next years conference. The YBF conference is arguably better than the Tory Party one, there is certainly more debate and better food. I really enjoyed YBF and so did everyone else in the NUCA contingent.

So what exactly happened you may ask? Well that would be telling because YBF operates under the Chatham House rule, in other words I cannot relate who said what etc. . However, I have special permission from Mr Donal Blaney to say what did happen and tell you all the fun events (and we're not skipping on the 'sound', 'shame' and 'resign').

The conference kicked off with a great speech, as ever, by the one and only Peter Botting. It really inspired us all to become the revolutionaries he encouraged.

Indeed we were inspired very much by the Botting's revolutionary tweet as he said he would randomly pick out of the people who retweeted the above comment one person who he would give a bottle of something special. Needless to say the Botting revolution was more successful than the Brand one.

Another great discussion of the day was about the moral case to lower taxes. Sound! In my opinion people should keep as much as their money as possible, especially if they have low or middling incomes. Why should we take money off people when it effects their lives noticeably? I was not the only person to believe this.

Never forget this, as was pointed out on the day.

During Friday evening we went to the Thatcher and Churchill archives in the college library. It was great to see documents which made such an impact on the world, for example the original copy of Churchill's Finest Hour speech. There was also a letter sent by Margaret Thatcher replying to a young boy who said he believed her to be a good person like Jesus.

In the Thatcher and Churchill archives.

This tour was universally popular and the YBF crew must be greatly congratulated for there organisation of this.

Following this there was a slap up meal to commemorate the passing of Eric Forth MP, a conviction politician who never backed down from the defence of freedom. Eric Forth MP was a great supporter of YBF in the early days so I am sure, looking down from up above, he would be pleased to see how many people are being taught by YBF to stand up for their values.

At the dinner Jennifer Salisbury Jones, of Bristol, gin and NUS leaving fame, won the Eric Forth Memorial award for her campaign for Bristol Uni to leave the NUS. JSJ has done so well that she got elected to be the NUS rep for the university; I thus think the award is pretty deserved. I think we're all waiting with anticipation for a share of the £50,000 amount of gin that Jenny promised.

The night however was young and so we had the odd refreshments. It was great fun, except the hour ramble around Cambridge David Cowan led me on so we could find so more alcohol after the bar had closed. Resign! But this tweet made us all a lot happier.

Hear Hear! Sound!

The night definitely had its effects on everyone in the morning too.

But we had a really great speaker to cure all our hangovers. Andrew Macleod, fellow Aussie, ex Labour member and former manager at the UN talked to us about the trade vs aid debate. Companies are the ones investing most into the lives of the poorest in the world and doing so much great work. Furthermore companies measure by results and are more effectively using their money to get people jobs and a better life with no poverty. We should be backing 'development investment' not 'development aid'. In my opinion this was the best speech of the conference.

There were other great speakers up to lunchtime with Ian Dale conducting a media training session, Jonathan Isaby who now heads up the Tax Payers Alliance (Sound), and Charlotte Vere who gave a great debate about women in the Conservative Party.

More great speakers were still to come however. The post lunch slot was filled by Robert Halfon MP who inspired us by talking about how we should do to things in the Conservative Party. Firstly, frame our arguments in a language ordinary people can understand to show conservative policies are helping them. Second, we must rename the Conservative Party they Workers Party to accurately portray what our party stands for. Thirdly, take the language of the Left to empathise with people. Rob also pointed out that the Smurfs are conservatives and not Marxists, Pappa Smurf is blue after all.

Comrade Steve Baker then followed to talk to us about sound money. Ultra-Sound!.

Steve really emphasised the problems we're facing in the West. Our economy, despite Gideon trying to help, isn't stopping us from having a 800% predicted national debt in 2040. I would rather have a 1% Conservative government than a 100% Labour one but we're still not doing enough. Freedom is at peril.

Chloe Smith then spoke to us all about how the Conservatives need to engage with young people, something that I think is very important. Chloe talked much about how jobs and speaking to young people is the way forward. No one was brave enough to mention Newsnight to her however.

There were at this time a complaint however, not about the speakers but the views of the stage. This complaint came from NUCA's very tall freshers rep Sam Armstrong on Twitter. Apparently this near 6 foot chap couldn't see past me, although I am 5 foot 4 inches. Perhaps it may be something to do with the fact Sam was rolling around in the seat above me in agony from the night before?

A tub thumping right wing speech was then heard from Mallory Factor. Mr Factor doesn't like the democrats and is a great freedom lover who really got the Yankees going at the conference. shouts of U-S-A were heard quite loudly for a good while.

We then had a talk that really interested #ThingsElliottSays talking about social media and blogging. It was a very good debate but I cannot help thinking some people were distracted.

But onto the second dinner, the Margaret Thatcher banquet. Some people got ready for this in an unusual way.

The dinner started very well with a smashing grace from Robert Halfon MP.

But by far the best bit of the meal was Connor Burns' speech; the best I have heard from him. There is still a moral crusade to bring about classical liberalism and its clear Connor Burns still has this passionate belief. Sound!

Many enjoyed Connor Burns' speech so much that they play Connor Burns bingo.

The meal also contained a few surprises. The biggest of the evening was not the great speeches but the food. I'm sure my sea bass was pink and salmon flavoured. Donal Blaney also was surprised by a huge YBF cake with a sparkling candle being wheeled out to celebrate 10 years of the Young Britons Foundation. All we could say to that was 10 more years.

By far the least surprising event was Oliver Cooper being awarded the Dolphin prize for ultra-soundness. Colonel Cooper is most definitely the first Conservative in charge of CF in many years.

The main prize was still to be announced however, and it was who had won Peter Botting's revolutionary prize. By shear luck the winner was NUCA's own Alex Bright. I hope he saves the expensive wine he received for a party with me in Nottingham. Hint, hint Brighty.

But the night, like the one before was still young, and plots, parties and some solid drinking still needed to take place.

Still everyone was up the next day for another round of speeches.

The Sunday started off with a foreign policy talk on Putin and his Russia. I was very interested by this as the sad thing seems to be that Russia is returning to the bad old days back in the USSR. Thanks goes to Daniel Hamilton who gave this excellent discussion.

But then Ukiper (Shame), Alderman and YBF organiser (Resign) Matt Richardson said something disgusting. Let's just say it involved a big white telephone.

Highlight of the last day was Rory Broomfield from the Freedom Association. This wasn't because of anything he said though. I think you may have pulled Rory.

But there was also love for another YBFer.

Last minute controversy also appeared at the conference with Robert Smith backing Stalin. NUCA's Robert Smith is known for taking up some very strange positions . At the #ThatcherDeabte last academic year Robert clapped for the proposition of this house regrets Mrs Thatcher. Shame!

But sadly all good things must come to an end. The conference finished at 2:30. My thanks goes to Donal Blaney and his tremendous team for an excellent #YBFX and I hope that #YBFXI is just as good if not better. If you're a conservative make sure you come to the YBF conference, if not you will miss the greatest weekend of the year.

So after a quick meal at KFC with the Colonel.

We headed back home. We were all very tired.

But some people spent their time productively on the train home.

As a last point I'm sorry this post has taken 3 days to do. I had to do some other things.

Made in Braintree

I don't watch Made in Chelsea, The Only Way Is Essex, Born in Bognor or all that sort of stuff. People may say I am not very reem; but then I will ask what the hell that means?

But Stephen Canning, the Eastern Chair, loves all this stuff. As well as picking up on all the terms from The Only Way is Essex; he is now becoming famous as man who works at dry cleaners on Made in Chelsea.

Stephen ran a very successful Eastern CF event at #CPC13

Some random man went to Stephen about his clothes which needed washing and sewing. This, camp but overly posh, chap said to Stephen "it's 19th century and I trust you". Stephen came in with the epic line of "yes, yes we do" when the bizarre person asked if there was a seamstress. Of the experience Stephen said "I put on a really weird voice on it for some reason".

Of course this is not the First Time Stephen has been famous. Perhaps we will see more of him on the media in the future.

Update

The fame continues in the Daily Mail.

Yes We Canning (Exclusive Interview)

Our congratulations today go to Stephen Canning who was selected as Eastern Region Chairman by the CF National Executive and Regional College.

The position of CF Chair for the East has been a point of contention of late since CCHQ's debacle of messing up the paper work of the last Chairman for the East, Samantha Hoy. Now these issues have been sorted, Stephen will bring the Eastern Region back to the forefront of CF campaigning. In the East there are many marginal seats which need to be taken or held in 2015. The East is a key area.

Stephen Canning Standing by his Manning.

Stephen told #ThingsElliottSays that he is "delighted to have been elected as the next regional chairman of the East of England. We've got so many fantastic branches and dedicated members that across the region."

Stephen would like everyone in the East to chip in and help win in 2015. He said that "I'm not coming into this with my own agenda I want to push or own plan I want to force upon people, I'm stepping into role with the hope that right across the region we can all work together to achieve what everyone in the region wants."

We wish Stephen all the best and we think he'll do an excellent job.
