Fresher's Fair At UoN

#ThingsElliottSays has been helping at NUCA's stall at the University of Nottingham's Fresher's Fair. Overall it was a really good few days with lot's of new fresher's signed up and they are eager to experience a port filled evening of debating on Friday 3rd October.

Our stand, by far the best of all the political societies in #ThingsElliottSay's biased opinion, was pretty busy throughout. It was well decorated by pictures of Mrs Thatcher, Boris, the national flag and later a picture of Ed Miliband eating a bacon sandwich*.

The Lib Dems were also out in force, trying to save their society from near collapse. #ThingsElliottSays' house-mate, Seb the Lib Dem President, was on the stall constantly trying to sign up enough members to keep his group affiliated with the SU. Only time will tell to see if it has worked. Good luck.

The Greenies were also there. For all their recycling mantra they had the most paper on their stall and binned the most things after the fair ended. They also got very angry with Labour telling them "You should be ashamed, you're splitting the left-wing vote." The last time I looked Labour were the largest left-wing party Greenies, mind you facts are not their forte.

They did have a very funny sign though.

And then there was Labour. Most of their committee is pretty nice, #ThingsElliottSays love's the banter. Lab Soc members are always welcome to NUCA Port and Policies and to join the society to get cheaper attendance rates. It's always better where the Tories are.

*This was to make up for Labour not displaying a single picture of their dear leader. #ThingsEllliottSays wonders why this is.

Exclusive: Political Scandal Rocks Nottingham University

A political scandal is rocking Nottingham University. Inherent biases in the the university system have been discovered. These revelations come after Nottingham University was recently labelled as 'sound(ish)' by this blog. Clearly however this was a mistake. Just look at the Road Layout.

There are calls for the Vice Chancellor to #Resign, in true Port and Policy style.

Tabism

#ThingsElliottSays has written another article for the Tab on Nottingham Unis Left Soc wanting Putin to invade Ukraine. These people are jolly nice arn't they. Reaction was overheard in Hallward to the article from other members of Left Soc. They said "Who the F*&k is Elliott Johnson". Looks like I'm on some socialist black list now.

As a little added bonus here is what Left Soc had to say about Venezuela and the terrible dictatorial regime of that socialist state.

But they do tell funny jokes.

ha ha ha ha ha.

The Tab article can be viewed here.

Lazy Lefties

The leftwing have gotten rather lazy at Nottingham University. The last few days saw strikes across the country because lecturers want more than a 1% rise in wages. One of my lecturers said to me last year that this demand is rather unfair because people across the country are a lot worse off and seeing less rises in wages than university lecturers. I agree with that sentiment.

Not many people come to the strikes at Nottingham Uni.

I'm rather tired of all these strikes when all we want to do is attend lectures and seminars. Yes lecturers have to work and often they do over time as well, but that is like most jobs. It would seem that Young Green President Duncan Davis, who till now has always been with the handful of lecturers who bother to show up at the picket lines, is tired of these strikes as well. He slept in on Monday during a 2 hour strike and so did some of his socialist friends. The lefties are becoming very lazy.

I did rather like his reply to me however.

Nottingham Uni is Sound(ish)

Out of all of the country's universities Nottingham is probably the most Tory, or rather the least blindly left-wing. The walls of Nottingham SU are a far cry from those of Manchester which has socialist and communist propaganda cover the building like wall paper. In comparison to Manchester #ThingsElliottSays has been sent by one of his sources two pictures that show how socialist propaganda and graffiti is 'respected' at UoN.

Rightly the Leftie who wrote this is described as an 'idiot' in the top left.

Seems like the revolution is going well when the comment rated 9/10 believes abolishing the Private Sector is a 's#*t' idea .

It seems that the students at Nottingham University are not keen on this sort of Leftie claptrap. This has been show in the past when they refused to allow striking miners to do collections on campus in the 1980s and last year rejected a motion to force all students on campus to have one view on abortion.

The only question left to answer is this. Was it Duncan or Archie who wrote this graffiti?

Iron Curtain

From Hallward on Campus to Lenton just of Ilkeston road, an Iron Curtain has descended across Nottingham. Sadly #ThingsElliottSays is going to slow down over the next few weeks because I have essays to do. I will post a few things here and there but not the usual amount.

I have 3 weeks of the Truman Doctrine, Taisho Democracy, Adam Smith and Vietnam to look forward to (with a smattering of Mao). So in the spirit of the time I'll leave you with Winston Churchill and his Iron Curtain speech.

Ed Davey Comes To Nottingham

Joy of Joys Ed Davey, the Climate Change and Anti-Energy Secretary, visited Nottingham University today. Ed was interested in the research carried out by the science bods in Nottingham on methane and cattle, although it is worth pointing out termites produce more methane.

Ed Davey blowing into a bag.

There has been some sort of fair and display for scientists UoN and Ed and the media have come to see what is going on. One of the fun and games demonstrations was blowing into a bag that can detect how much methane you are producing. It turns out Ed produces more methane than the average person. I thus tell Ed, for the sake of humanity, stop breathing.

I'm not a big fan of Ed Davey. His time as Energy Secretary has set out a system where we are being swindled on our energy bills.  By 2020 the average household (which currently pays £1460 on gas and electric) will be paying £1883.40. This will get worse by 2030 because then we'll be paying a whooping £2920.00 to heat our homes and run the TV. At the moment 4.5 million households live in fuel poverty, obviously this is only going to increase.

Energy Bill increases are a swindle by the government (see http://energyswindle.org/ to voice your concerns against them).

Our energy bills are unnaturally raised by the government so the government can subsidise inefficient* power sources which are supposed to combat climate change. So it means that, in the greatest ever technological year for the human race, the government is bucking the trend and putting more people into fuel poverty. More suffering people and more dying pensioners, all because of government intervention in free markets.

Did you know because of the raw materials from across the globe and the 1000 tons of concrete underneath each windmill, wind turbines produce more CO2 than they save.

The Government often defends the bill increases by saying a portion of the money goes to help people in fuel poverty, buying insulation and other things for example. This is true but when you think about it this is a bit stupid because this fuel poverty prevention is mostly being spent on fuel poverty caused by the government subsidising wind turbines and solar panels. There is a cyclical pattern developing: the government subsidises inefficient energy - the government increases bills to pay for this - fuel poverty increases as a result - the government launches a scheme to combat fuel poverty - the government increases bills to pay for this - fuel poverty increases as a result. This will only end when people say we will not tolerate the government subsidising inefficient energy.

Even Her Majesty the Queen is facing fuel poverty.

Ed Davey could help, and cut carbon too, by really getting fracking going. He has been a delayer for our energy revolution which has already happnened in the US of A, where fuel bills have gone down by over a third. This is because fracked gas, despite massive over regulation, produces so much profit for companies it is an amazingly efficient fuel source. And what's more for those real carbon counters, not those fake anti-capitalists, gas produces far less CO2 than our main power sources of coal and oil. All good then.

 Says it all really.

But Ed disagrees because he has signed up to the left's Green Agenda which is actually a new vehicle to deliver a socialist economy. Subsidises are good for Lefties because it gives them control over the UKs energy source and therefore control over the people (the main objective of any left leaning government).

The fracking protestors deliberately tried to stop people working at the Caudrilla HQ to close down the business.

If you want evidence of this just look at the last Green Movement protest about fracking you can plainly see this. What happened was a militant attack against an 'evil capitalist private' business because it is freeing the people by reduce energy bills. These people don't want a green economy, they want a state controlled economy. Their lack of interest in the facts around fracking and the environment show this more. Fracked gas, as previously said, produces less CO2 than the majority of energy sources we used today and  it has been categorically proved not to pollute water sources by independent scientists.

I don't personally think Ed is as mad or extreme as the fracking protestors; but he has signed up to the Green Agenda which is only about increasing state involvement in the economy to control people's lives. So Ed, next time you come to Nottingham and it is term time, I'll be there presenting to you the inconvenient truth.

Ed Davey is a bit mad, kick him out.

* For those in the Green movement who say renewables are not inefficient the mere fact they need subsidising means they are because otherwise people would be falling over themselves to build the magic energy making windmills and solar panels without government help.
