Exclusive: Nadim Muslim Stands Down As Trent CF Chairman

Chairman of Nottingham Trent University, Nadim Muslim, has announced that he has stood down. Nadim set up Nottingham Trent CF branch and has had a very successful time when running it for two non consecutive terms.

Nadim said in a letter of resignation that "Albeit reluctantly, I am sad to be leaving this great branch behind due to graduation today (23/07/14). The society has grown from strength to strength since I founded the association with help from great members. It has been an honour to work with such talented and passionate people."

Nadim has been at the forefront of campaigning and has set up great speaker events and pint and policies. He has managed to forge a good relationship with Trent CF and Emma McClarkin MEP, who he helped out massively to get re-elected. Nadim has also been very helpful in the election campaign of Jane Hunt, the Conservative MP candidate for Nottingham South. Jane said to Nadim that "Congratulations upon your graduation yesterday Nadim and many, many thanks for all you have done for the Conservatives in Nottingham."

Nadim's presence will also be missed by those in NUCA. Nadim has forged a 'special-relationship' between NUCA and NTUCF and this will certainly continue into the future. Nadim has said exclusively to #ThingsElliottSays "I've had some amazing experiences with some great people, especially from NUCA. Definitely enjoyed the port!" #ThingsElliottSays very much enjoyed Nadim's presence at Port and Policies but does  remember the time he argued to 'deport Jordan Brown.'

Alex Bright the NUCA President has said "As well as being a true friend, I would like to thank him on behalf of NUCA for playing a crucial role in building and strengthening a strong working relationship between the two societies, which I'm sure will endure. Nadim, you'll always be welcome at NUCA and we hope that you'll continue to join us at our events throughout the forthcoming year."

Nadim thanked all those who had helped him and Trent CF over the years. James Poland, Amy Atkinson, Luc Chignell, Ben Howlett, Clara Boyland, Ollie Saddington and Giuliano Pisarski all got a special mention is Nadim's letter.* He will be missed, although #ThingsElliottSays still expects to see him around.

Breaking News: Nadim Muslim to be next NTUCF Chairman

#ThingsElliottSays, as promised here, is now paying out on odds 9/11 to all those who placed bets on Nadim Muslim to be the next CF Chairman. Nadim is the only candidate to be the next NTUCF Chairman in the online vote. His success will will not be announced at the AGM on the 25th November because as I have just been told the AGM has now been reduced to an informal meet up in Trent SU rules and has no electoral meaning (corrections from Trent SU specialists).

I think Nadim will do a good job as NTUCF chair and will use his experience to guide a fairly high number of intake of freshers this year into the Trent Tories. Nadim exclusively told #ThingsElliottSays "I'm looking forward to building upon the success of NTU CF once more, and I'm thrilled that the majority of the committee is comprised of freshers, something that is vital to the success of our branch."

With Boris' backing, Nadim will be the new NTUCF Chair.

As Nadim alluded to, the rest of his committee will be made up by freshers who were the only people to apply for the positions of Deputy Chair (who will be Ollie Saddington), Social Secretary (Clara Boyland) and Treasuer (Giuliano Pisarski). Of course, like Nadim's position, none of these will be officially elected till the AGM.

#CPC13 Day 1

So it's my first ever conference and the first day was amazing. Here is a sum up of the day. 

The first thing I saw was all the lefties on the march through the centre of Manchester demanding no cuts to government and the economic collapse of Britain, a very good idea. There were also some smaller groups at the entrance of the conference from the NHS Party to people warning us about milk. The Badger people were also there telling  us about how the country is now run by the National Framer's Union, which I was not aware of. Indeed a giant badger started stalking us later shouting 'tally ho' and other hunting phrases, its 'what ho' not 'tally ho'. the protestors were quite extreme but Colonel Cooper and Mahyar 'Shadow' Tousi got the worst of it. 

But onto what really matters, the conference itself. I spent the day with Nadim Muslim and Alex Bright, forming a Nottingham trio, and we went around some of the fringe stalls. The best freebees on offer were the TSB bags which contained some rock, which has sold me into opening a new account. We voted in the Daily Politics mood box on the question of 'who was the strongest leader Cameron or Thatcher?'. Some mad people believed that Cameron was stronger than Thatcher, I hope they were pointed to the mental health stands. We also saw Elvis at the fringe singing to a lady having a coffee.

We had fun in the main hall too. We were a few rows in front of the action with Philip Hammond when it all kicked off about the 2nd Royal Fusiliers and here is the video that I got of it. Sadly I forgot to bring an SD reader to conference so I am using other people's photos.

William Hague however was the main player of the day for us. He gave the best speech today at conference, despite his cold, and told us about how with a growing Foreign Office presence across the world the UK is becoming a bigger global player every day. As we left the Hall I also met William Hague and congratulated him on his speech to which he thanked me for. Later on he popped up again at the Friends of Gibraltar event where he and the Chief Minister of Gibraltar gave a speech on how Gibraltar will remain British and not used as a bargaining chip with Spain like under the last Labour Government. #Sound.

At the Gibraltar event we met Andrew Rosindell MP, the Chief Finance Minister for Jersey, Philip Hammond (who had recovered from the protests) and the great Jacob Rees Mogg. Indeed we bumped into several MPs during the day including Robert Halfon who said he reads my blog. But the best chance meeting was Grant Shapps who had dinner with us at Nandos. We talked about Team 2015 (which Dave really loves) and how the party has really sharpened up its image, if this continues we will be in a great position for the General Election.

Breaking News: Nadim Muslim New Nottingham Trent CF Interim Chair

Nadim Muslim is one step closer to becoming the Chairman at Nottingham Trent CF after the resignation of Amy Atkinson.

This was decided after an idea proposed by Graham Cox that Nadim become Interim chair to use his experience (see http://thingselliottsays.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/after-resignation-of-ntucf-chairman-amy.html). This was put to a vote online that lasted until 12pm today on the NTUCF Facebook page with the results that Graham's proposition was unanimously backed. Nadim will now oversee the society till the October AGM  overseeing plans for the freshers fair and other issues that arise. #ThingsElliottSays will be increasing the odds of Nadim becoming new chair in October to 9/11 as Nadim being chairman will give him a better standing with new freshers. Nadim however has said "'there has been no decision to stand for Chairman come the elections."

Nadim's main task before the AGM will be to make sure the freshers fair runs smoothly. I'm sure there are plenty of generation Y members ready to join.

Nadim has said exclusively to #ThingsElliottSays that "I'm pleased that people want me to take on the role. Amy has done a terrific job with her preparations for the start of the next academic year and I'll be working to implement them, ensuring everything goes smoothly."

Breaking News: Voting in NTUCF for Nadim Muslim to be Interim Chair

After the resignation of NTUCF Chairman, Amy Atkinson, this morning (see http://thingselliottsays.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/exclusive-nottingham-trent-cf-chair.html) it has been decided there will be a vote on whether Nadim Muslim should be made interim chair.

Nadim is the proposed interim chairman at Nottingham Trent University CF.

It was suggested by Graham Cox, tipped as a potential candidate for chairman, that between now and the October AGM an interim chair be found to carry out the already set plans for the Fresher's Fair and any issues that come up between then. Graham also suggested that Nadim take on this role but that he stand aside at the mandatory SU elections in November for some of the incoming freshers.

Nottingham Trent members are currently voting on the question of whether 'Nadim Muslim should take on the role of interim-Chairman of NTU CF until October 2013, when official elections can take place?' Nadim so far has the backing of Amy.

Graham has ruled himself out of standing for Trent CF Chair.

It seems that #ThingsElliottSays was right in predicting a chairmanship for Nadim, odds are now 5/6 for Nadim. Graham has also ruled himself out from standing as chairman "it's important I keep student politics at arms length for myself" citing a greater role in his home constituency of North-West Leicestershire.

Exclusive: Nottingham Trent CF Chair Speculation

After thinking about it for several months Amy Atkinson, Nottingham Trent CF Chairman, has resigned. The resignation is based on the grounds of the increased effort she will need to put in for her third and final year. But who will replace her?

Amy has said "my time at NTU CF has been a great one and despite all of the stresses that come with it, it has been one of the best things I have done in my life" Amy has indeed had a very successful time as Chairman organising a recent trip to parliament with East Midlands CF and the many Pint and Policy events that have happened.

CF Chair, Colonel Cooper, said to her "You've done a great job as chairman, Amy - you're making the right decision in the circumstances." I'm sure he will send her a bucket of KFC in thanks for her good work. Richard Harris, the East Midlands Regional Chairman, has said that he "fully supports her decision as her education must come first. It is however a shame she had to step down but she will remain on regional exec, vice chairman university colleges." Amy has also sensationally revealed, in TBG style, she'll "help in the fresher's fair to try and get new people" and remain an active member.

So where next for NTU? Well an AGM will be held for Amy's position in October. So who are some of the possible contenders for the race to be the next chairman?

Nadim Muslim

Nadim may soon, yet again, be leader of NTUCF.

Nadim was the previous chairman of Nottingham Trent CF and put a lot of work into setting it up. He was beaten in election last year by Amy to be Chairman but has still been majorly involved serving on the committee and attending events regularly. Nadim is also the Deputy Chairman Membership for Nottingham and Regional Secretary for the East Midlands. He is very well known across the area and has a reputation for being solid pair of hands, he is also very popular with NUCA as he attends a lot of their events. Speculation from people about him running is rife but he has said "We'll see" when asked about it. The only thing holding back Nadim from doing it is the work he must put in for his 3rd year.

Will Millard

Michael Gove is backing Will, are you?

Will is another Nottingham Trent founder but has spent time in the US of A this year*. Because of this he is not as well known although is fairly competent too, being the Vice Chairman for Stratford-upon-Avon, Kenilworth & Southam Conservative Future. Will faces one big problem despite these advantages. He will be in Strasbourg working with the European Parliament. Will has said "I would gladly should the group offer it, take up the gauntlet of chairmanship but I'm in Strasbourg for a year." I would count Will as a possible if Nadim does not want to do it.

Graham Cox

Graham is a friendly and a good bet for a fun time.

Graham is also another member of NTUCF that has been fairly active. He is a first year, which may be of benefit to him as he has less work to do next year. But of course it may turn out that Graham lacks his opponents experience at Trent. Having said this he is chair of his CF branch at home and was recently elected treasurer, which will boost his weakest point. Graham is also very friendly and has a good reputation so with a whole load of freshers coming to Nottingham Trent he may be in with a good chance.

#NTUPP (Pint and Policy)

Yesterday I went to NTU's Pint and Policy, the copy cat version of NUCA's own Port and Policy. I really enjoyed myself. My thanks go to the Orange Tree and the Conservative Team from Nottingham Trent. Well done for the debating as well, it got really good. Here's the record of the night from Twitter (Trent need to get more tweeters).

NUCA certainly livened up the debate last night with not just table banging but shouting, chanting and really going for the jugular with the Labour Party.

We of course, despite this, we were full of courtesy to the opposition, despite them being wrong.

We had a great debate on Thatcher to kick off. There were some excellent reasons for why Thatcher put the Great back into Britain. My thanks goes to new East Midlands Chairman Richard Harris for appreciating my points.

But the most interesting thing in the debate is that no one could say that Thatcher was bad, even Labour. They're a weak lot in the Labour Party, you know. Weak, Feeble!

We had a good NUCA turnout, but one of our redder members was missing from the debate.

Of course none of the debates really mattered. What did was the Pints. After some lovely cider I had a Bloody Mary, which was fairly good as a drink. Jenny summed up the aftermath of this significant drinking well.
